The CIF held its annual conference at Croke Park on 2nd October 2019. The event was attended by the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy.

The Taoiseach stated ‘We are embedding a culture of compliance and accountability within the industry, including strengthening the building control framework through the establishment of the National Building Control Office.  We will now place the Construction Industry Register Ireland on a statutory footing'.

Closing the conference was Minister for Housing Planning and Local Government who stated that ‘he intended to deliver CIRI on a statutory footing by 2020’.

CIRI is a positive initiative for the construction sector and consumers alike. The scheme provides a comprehensive source for consumers and professional bodies to identify competent approved members who have demonstrated standards of quality, have the relevant educational training, and proven experience in any given sector of the industry.

CIRI is an important tool for industry professionals in vetting construction companies and sole traders deemed competent as a requirement under regulations. It additional aids consumers in identifying competent persons and companies to complete works within a fast moving acomplex regulatory environment where compliance is paramount
