Our Lady's Hospice Palliative Care Facility project won the 2019 Building of the Year Award in the Medical and Health category.

Clancy delivered this 218-bed hospice to provide specialist care for people with a wide range of needs from rehabilitation to end of life care. This high quality, person-centred care facility provides specialist care to over 1,500 individuals every year. The care is provided by Our Lady’s Hospice’s 600 staff and 300 volunteers who deliver excellent service for patients and their families.

Clancy were appointed main contractor & PSCS for the 2,500m2 single storey 36 bed extension and 800m2 refurbishment of the existing palliative care unit.  Due to the complexity of the project the construction operations were carried out on a phased basis within a live, sensitive and acute environment in which existing operations of the unit were maintained and protected during the works.  The works involved careful planning of each stage of the project which required continual liaison with the client’s representatives, led by Reddy Architecture, to ensure that all works were coordinated in the best possible way.  Careful consideration was given to the planning, management and control of noise, vibration and dust given the extremely sensitive nature of the surrounding environment throughout the project which required detailed planning and liaising with Our Lady’s Hospice staff and representatives.  All safety risk assessments and method statements were issued well in advance of planned works to ensure client approval and time for any control or contingency measures to be put in place prior to the elements of work proceeding.

The unit includes single and multiple bedrooms, isolation rooms, treatment rooms and all associated staff and ancillary areas.  Clancy had an excellent working relationship with the Client and Design Team and the new “state of the art “Palliative Care unit was finished to the highest standards, without impacting on the existing services and was delivered to full client satisfaction.
